Request For Funding

Please visit the web page Executive Board for information to contact the Request for Funding Chair.
Please see the submission from RFF (Request for Funding) recipient Crystal Robles and how funds from the community club have helped her and her department:
"The Bret Harte Community Club (BHCC) has been able to help me create a more engaging, rigorous, and interactive classroom for many years.  A prime example is when the BHCC was able to fund an entire computer cart for the social studies department.  All social studies classes now have more freedom to include technology into their lessons, and I, for one, integrate technology in my classroom at least 12 weeks each school year.  This computer cart will make it easier for all social studies teachers to use tech literacy tools to help students practice 21st century skills.

The BHCC has also helped our social studies department gain far more interesting curriculum that focuses on simulation and interactive game play history lessons.  We have a variety of materials that include inquiry, mystery, and problem solving lessons that we would not have been able to have otherwise.  Moreover, the BHCC provided over 20 different relative and educational films for our teachers to be able to use relevant clips into our lessons.  When students are able to access the content in a variety of ways, they are more engaged and their levels of knowledge deepens.

The BHCC has also been able to supply my classroom with useful tools that help me become a much more efficient and even spontaneous teacher.  Sometimes I have to change my lesson at a moment's notice, depending on the feedback I get from students, and having some equipment in my room really helps to not hold back and allows me to do my best job.  For example, the BHCC has provided a 1,000 foot roll of poster paper for me to use in my classroom.  That means that I can do poster projects at a moments notice, or create clean work surface areas very easily.  I also have an organizational cart for students to organize and store computer mice and headphones, which were also donated from the BHCC.  Not only can students get their assigned computer accessories, but it saves time in class because I have an efficient means to organize these items for each class period.  This means I can spend more time teaching.  Even more importantly, the BHCC has provided a microphone to my classroom and it not only saved my voice from injury, but it allows students to hear me more clearly, and, therefore, become more successful.

When I think about it, everything that makes my classroom a better classroom is because of the generosity from those who have donated to the BHCC.  Thanks to the BHCC my classroom also has the following supplies and equipment:  an LCD project, a document camera, a DVD player with speakers, a wireless microphone system, electric pencil sharpeners, numerous curriculum books, high quality project materials, posters, online digital resources, individual lapboards, and even a chime to call student's attention.

I am so grateful to all the families who have contributed to the BHCC.  The items that I have received have allowed me to create a classroom where I can use the learning time to its fullest.  The materials and equipment helps students become more engaged and, therefore, excited about history. "
