Bret Harte Community Club is proud to provide the following programs for Bret Harte students, staff and community!
Each one enriches our students' middle school experience and helps set Bret Harte apart from other schools in the district.
Promotion Gala is a celebration event for 8th graders shortly before graduation.

BHCC is pleased to announce the return of our after-school orchestra program. The program offers classes twice a week for improved student proficiency. The classes will be held on campus at Bret Harte Middle School.

​Features of the program include:
  • Both Intermediate and Advanced Strings classes available
    • ​​Beginners can also participate with an additional Start Up Package 
  • Instruments in both classes will include violin, viola, cello, double bass, and electric bass
  • The classes will be on Tuesdays & Thursdays 
    • 3:15 pm - 4:00 pm and 4:15 pm - 5:00 pm
  • ​$332 registration fee per student per semester
    • ​Fall semester runs from Sept through Dec
    • Spring semester runs from Jan through May
    • Need-based scholarships are available
  • End of semester performances are included
  • Offered through our instructional partner, Almaden Academy of Music
  • Parent participation and student commitment will be needed​

Speech & debate

The Bret Harte Speech & Debate program with the amazing Ms. Fernandez and award-winning Leland Speech & Debate students is returning for this school year!

Speech & Debate will meet on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm at Leland High School. Students will be selected for participation based on interest applications and selections are typically made by Back to School Night. Please check for announcements from the Bret Harte principal in mid-August or contact the Speech & Debate program for more details.
