Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Bret Harte Middle School. As a Bret Harte Community Club volunteer, you are enhancing the experience of our teachers, staff, and students, as well as connecting with other volunteers in our Bret Harte community.

How to become a BHCC Volunteer

Please review the various volunteer opportunities below and fill out the “Volunteer Interest” form on the right, indicating which role(s) you are interested in. Some volunteer roles require district clearance which can take over a month to complete. We encourage you to complete this process as soon as possible. • Staff Appreciation – (Aug-May) – Order and setup planned luncheons a few times during the year for the BHMS teachers & staff.
• P.E.S.T (Parents Encouraging Staff & Teachers) – (Sept-May) – Support teachers with small tokens of appreciation throughout the year.
• Library Volunteer – (Sept-May) – Provide additional supervision in the library during lunch so more students can use it. Clearance required
• SNAC (Student Nutrition Advisory Committee) – (Sept-May) – Help sell snacks in the “Student Store” during lunch period throughout the year. Clearance required
• HR2 Awards – (Oct/Jan/Apr) – Facilitate nominations and awards for students that demonstrate honesty, respect, or responsibility. Clearance required
• Parent Speaker Series – (Oct/Feb) – Single Event Volunteer – Assist with setup and checking in guests at this event.
• Book Fair – (Nov) – Single Event Volunteer – Setup and work at the event.
• Career Day – (Apr) – Single Event Volunteer – Assist with setup and recruitment of professionals, or present your career at the event.
• Math Enrichment – (Apr) – Single Event Volunteer – Setup and chaperone the MathCounts and/or Math Olympiad events.
• Cultural Fair – (May) – Single Event Volunteer - Plan and organize the event, sponsor a country booth, or lead a cultural performance.
• 8th Grade Promotion Party (May) – Single Event Volunteer - Plan and organize this exciting 8th-grade only event, or volunteer the day of.

NOTE: Volunteer roles that indicate Clearance required are on-campus during the school day and require SJUSD clearance and school principal approval, due to direct interaction with students. Refer to the Volunteer Clearance Process  for detailed information on obtaining your clearance.
